Is my neck lift infected? I had an extended neck lift 5 days ago. (Photos)

Question

I noticed today that behind one of my ears, the skin where it has been cut and pulled is bright red like a steak, but only on one side and only near the incisions. Is this part of the bruise? Is this scar tissue? Or is this a sign of infection? I am completely freaking out! Please help!

The redness along your incision line can be normal at this point.  Its best to follow with your doctor to insure good healing.

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon to review your recovery process. Please remain patient because you are in the very early stages of your healing process, and bruising and swelling is common.

Thanks for your question and images. The appearance of your incisions are not unusual after neck lift and facelift surgery. I do not see anything of significant concern and I do not believe there is an infection. The best thing to do is to discuss your concerns with your surgeon but I am sure you are healing fine. RegardsDr Guy Watts

Your necklift incisional areas seem to be healing normally and don't look infected.  I would recommend that you follow up with your surgeon to discuss your concerns.

Some redness, bruising and swelling is normal after any operation which does not mean infection.  Increasing swelling, drainage and fever can indicate an infection.  At 5 days post op it is difficult to determine which, but you should be checking with your surgeon.
