Hi, I was wandering whether anything can be done for my uneven eyes. My right eye is significantly lower than my left eye (I have had this since birth), and it affects my right eyelid. Although it doesn't affect my vision, I am very self conscious about this and hate having my photo taken. Some people have noticed, while others say they never noticed until I pointed it out. Can anything be done to even this out?
Answer: Eye asymmetry Hi. You are correct that you do have uneven eyes which is noticeable. This can be corrected and is likely very difficult and i suspect you wouldnt accept the scars. It is a complex issue and you would need an examination before any specific advice could be given. Thomas Hardy is an excellent oculoplastic surgeon in melbourne. Regards

Answer: Uneven eyes Hi Lauren, Thanks for your interesting question. Unnevenness of the eyes is really common and there are multiple causes. In your case, it is due asymmetry of the skull and facial bones, I'm pretty sure. This is common, harmless and in general shouldn't be fixed unless very noticeable. It's a massive deal to contemplate fixing it.Here's the thing: Mild facial asymmetry has absolutely no impact on attractiveness of the face. It kind of makes us who we are. Symmetry and beauty, unless the asymmetry is large, are completely different things. Most faces in addition have asymmetry of expression. In my work, I see it all the time. Often, people come with for example eyebrow asymmetry they've noticed, but the cause is underlying facial asymmetry not the eyebrows at all!The actress, Shannon Doherty, has discussed her marked facial asymmetry publically - have a look at her online. Yet, she has a very attractive face. One of her eyes is well above the other. It doesn't matter. It does make buying sunglasses a drag though, that's for sure. All the best,Howard WebsterPlastic surgeon.

Answer: Uneven Eyes Thanks LaurenThe bone in your under eye area is weak and hence looks different to the other side (where it looks good). The lower eyelid and soft tissue is pulled down a little bit due to the lack of volume on that side. Surgery to fix the bony mid face is complex, but you can add some filler to your mid face to support the lower eyelid, this may help by making it less noticeable. The key is to find a competent professional who can inject fillers in your under eye area. All the best

Answer: Uneven eyes It looks to me that you have differential development on both sides of the face. It is not unusual to have facial asymetry as a result of different size facial bones , their contours and their position. This will effect the soft tissues which results in the look that you are perceiving [for example the right eye looks lower and smaller than the left] .. What to do is a dilemma in that bone repositioning is very detailed and involved work and unless the deficiencies and the deformities are significant, you should give any thought of reconstruction long and thorough investigation. Seek out several consultations with PS's in your area. But remember--no one is perfect and discrepancies in appearance are the norm rather than the exception... Good Luck
