Will I go back to normal after Botox causes eye bags and eye discomfort?

Dear doctors, I am 2.5 months post botox around the eyes and I have been suffering from eye bags ever since the botox. The inner corners of my eyes feel tugged, the skin feels tight and the eye bags feel heavy. My eyes feel dry, sticky and gets tired easily. Can you explain why this is happening and how long am I expecting for these effects to go away? I have been waiting for 10 weeks but it didn't get better. So afraid that this is permanent. I am desperate. Thanks in advance, doctors!

This should go away once the Botox goes away, which would be in about 3-4 months. Sorry to hear that you're not happy with your results, but this is not permanent.

I recommend you return to your provider and hopefully are able to review photos of your eyes before the botox was injected. It is extremely unusual to still have symptoms this far out. Botox does not cause permanent eye dysfunction and so I would reassure you that your symptoms will abate. You must be terribly nervous with thoughts of permanent damage. Fear and regret can really exacerbate an individual's negative response to botox. I think you will feel much better when you get the reassurance you need from a face to face visit with an experienced provider. Sometimes just the reminder that Botox is a very safe product--with temporary effects--makes a person feel much better, knowing they didn't do something unsafe.

It sounds as though the muscles were injected incorrectly (or with too much Botox). If Botox is placed below the eyes (rather than outwards towards the crow's feet) often the orbital muscles are ill-affected and cause bags. When this happens at its worst, it can make the lower eyelid itself not function as well so the eyes don't quite blink the same, and your eyes will become dry. Botox is temporary and it will go away, in time. You can try prescription eyedrops that will help moisten your eyes in the meantime. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and
