Right breast riding high, left has dropped and full on the bottom 5 weeks post op. Is this my final result? (Photo)

Hi and thanks for sharing your question as I am sure many other women are asking the same thing!  Five weeks is too early to evaluate shape and symmetry. In the majority of cases, the breasts are asymmetrical prior to surgery and will respond differently to breast augmentqation and on a different time schedule! The smaller breast has more stretching to do than a larger breast and more often than not, ladies have one of each!  A difference in the level of the fold under the breast prior to the procedure can also become more noticable after breast augmentation.  Breast augmentation typically results in "your breasts, only bigger" with all of their wonderful differences. Your photos suggest that your under breast fold may have been higher on the right side which could acount for the minor difference you are seeing at this point. The lower part of the right breast has more stretching to do. There are other factors that can contribute to early asymmetry as well.  If one is using one arm more than the other, lifting as an example, the implant on that side may drift upward due to muscle contraction and it may not come back down easily. Eventually, the lower part of the pocket closes off on that side. This is more common with round implants. If you had form stable anatomic shaped implants placed, they are typically placed very precisely in a tight glove-like pocket and would not be expected to move up or down. Because every case is different, and you are still very early in the process, your results will improve and become more natural as time goes by. (Good thing right?) You are only 5 weeks post op, and there are still many changes going on. Many times one implant will drop before the other one. If you are concerned, make sure you follow up with your surgeon. It is much too early for any type of revision surgery. Typically revision surgery should not be done until after 6-9 months. Some of my patients benefit from a band that they wear on top of the breasts to help add pressure if the implant has not dropped. You might want to ask about this at your next follow up appointment. It's too early to become overly concerned about the asymmetry of the breast implants. Particularly In younger patients it may take several months for the implants to assume their final position.

and you can still  have improvements.  My personal preference is for my patients to have level upper poles and yours appear close on your photo.  Why?  Because that is what shows when wearing a tube top or tank top without a bra.  Your nipples were probably uneven to start with.  But you should be asking your surgeon for maneuvers that can help your implants settle to your preferences.

Hi, thanks for your question.  Implants invariably settle postoperatively--hopefully your right will settle to the degree necessary to match the left. Massage can help, augmentation bands may help, but follow your surgeon's suggestions. Only he or she knows the intraoperative details, and what best to expect postoperatively. One complicating factor is that textured implants, such as the anatomical cohesive gel implants, tend to settle less postoperatively due to greater ingrowth of the tissues. You have a good short term result. If you are right handed or sleep on your right side it may keep your right implant slight higher. There are post op bras with a supportive band to help control the position that I choose to use for my patients. 

you need to be more patient. i tell all of my patients that they should not pass any judgements on their breast augmentation until at least 3-4 months have passed. it takes time for them to settle. it is not unusual at all for the breasts to look very different at 5 weeks. it is amazing how often by 3-4 months they will look much more similar. remember though, it is very rare for  breasts to look exactly the same after (or before) surgery. patients tend to examine their breasts much more critically after surgery. david berman  md

You are still early after your breast augmentation and hopefully by 3 months the right implant will drop more.  Be aware that the slight nipple areola asymmetry will persist.  Ask your plastic surgeon about vigorous breast implant displacement exercises and possibly a pole wrap.

Five weeks is still early after surgery to see the final result, as tissue stretching and adjusting can take longer, especially if you were small to begin with.  It looks like your breasts were somewhat different in shape before surgery, and this also can affect how the tissues settle.  I would advise some patience and follow your surgeons instructions for your best post-operative care.
