Can my rhinoplasty be reversed?

A revision rhinoplasty can be done. The bone and or cartilage can be restored to approximate what your nose used to look like. The bad news is that no, a prior surgery cannot be "undone" to restore the nose to exactly what it used to be. The good news is that this is usually not necessary plus you had the surgery for a reason to begin with. A revision rhinoplasty performed by a revision nose expert can improve your nasal appearance and function, addressing your concerns. While your original nose cannot be identically replicated, a revision surgery can address your current concerns and likely achieve an aesthetic result that closely resembles your unoperated nose. When treating the nose, it is best to address all of its dimensions and components-- regardless of how small the change may be. The nose is a complete anatomic unit, and if you change the hump - without addressing the other components- you will not get your best result. The harmony of the nose can best be improved and maintained by complete, although subtle rhinoplasty. You will need a complete physical exam to complete the evaluation. Photos would be helpful.

Hello and thanks for posting this question.It's normal that a year after rhinoplasty, the swelling has finally gone down and the results you see are final. I'm a bit confused about your desire to go back to your original nose, for which you saw a plastic surgeon and had a rhinoplasty in the first place. It's doubtful that your surgeon, or any surgeon, can take your nose back to its original position, and it's doubtful that that would make you happy, as again, you weren't happy with it in the first place. I suggest that you go back to your original surgeon with your concerns and see what he or she has to say. If you are still dissatisfied, as suggested by another colleague, visit with a board certified plastic surgeon for a revision consultation. Rhinoplasty is an extremely difficult surgery to perform, primarily because cartilage can grow back, leading to less than satisfactory results even in the best hands. While you can have a revision rhinoplasty to alter the shape of your nose, you will, most likely, not revert to the exact pre-surgery look.  If you are unhappy with it, you should see someone about a revision.  See an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon for best, natural results.

You can have a revision but do you really want your old nose; remember, you had a rhinoplasty because you did not like it. Consider alternative's with your surgeon or get a second opinion.
