3 days post op and I'm still not able to get into and out of bed without help. Is this normal?

Tomorrow I will be 3 day post op and I’m still not able to get into and out of the bed without our help is this normal? I am still in pain like I got rain over by a truck . I am still laughing on my back to sleep I would like to know when all this will go away?

One of the the problems with being less mobile after surgery is that you have an increased risk for developing a clot in your leg. Given the severity of your discomfort, I would recommend that you contact your surgeon.

Getting in and out of bed can be the most challenging things following the procedure, especially if liposuction of the core area was performed. This is due to being sore in that area, and the garment restricting movement a bit. It is very normal to experience some discomfort following liposuction, especially 3 days post op. However, it shouldn't be excruciating pain, if it is, it is important to follow up with your surgeon. Every single day following the procedure should get better and less discomfort should occur. You also have to realize that every patient has a different pain threshold, the majority of patients experience very little to no discomfort.

Hi there, everyone experiences discomfort and pain post procedure differently.  it will depend on a variety of factors.  I highly recommend post procedure lymphatic massages to help with the swelling and discomfort.  You should also check in with your surgeon regarding your concerns.

Pain shouldnt be that bad after body surgery, please see your physician if you are concerned.   If you are unhappy with your results please speak to your physician and ensure he was a full body VASER HD liposuction physciain wtih expensive experience in body shaping and not just traditional fat reduction.  At this point you  should be using compression, RF treatments like venus legacy / exilis / Inmode Forma and Contoura, and lymphatic massage to get you through healing.  It will take 6-12 months to see the final outcome.  If you are unhappy you can get a revision procedure by an expert.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello and thank you for your question.It is normal for you to be sore after a smart lipo procedure. However, you should be able to get out of bed, and it is important that you get up and move around. If the pain is that severe,  I suggest you contact your surgeon to be evaluated. Best of luck!

This can be normal. We don't know what areas were treated and how many areas and how aggressively they had to be treated(some people have a lot of fat to be removed while others less so)Also you are not 3 days post op. A simple check with your surgeon should be your next step. Your tissues have been traumatized so I would do nothing extra for several days to allow uninterrupted recovery and healing. A binder would be wise to stabalize and support the tissues.

You don't provide details about your surgery but I have done over 840 Smartlipo cases in my office, under local with oral sedation (just a few relaxing pills). Almost everyone returns to work in 1-2 days. you need to get up and move around and that will do much more for your recovery, than lying in bed, focusing on how much you hurt. I am sure you are sore, but the worst thing you can do, is spend tons of time in bed. it will improve much faster, if you get up walking around - including going for a walk outside and going up and downstairs. Many of my patients resume full exercising in 5 days!!!!!david berman md

Hi and welcome to our forum!
Congratulations on your recent surgery. Pain after surgery is usually controlled with analgesics which should allow you to be up and around. Getting up and down can be a bit difficult for the first several days. Increase your activity daily but don't overdo. The majority of the pain will subside within the week, but there will still be aches and pains with certain movements which may last for several months.
If the pain is significant, you should contact your plastic surgeon.
