Really swollen 10 weeks after Smart Lipo surgery. Is fat coming back? Haven't wore binder after 1st week, it cuts my breast skin

3800 mililiters fat taken. I've worn my Dr.s bodysuit daily since. My postop appt I lost 10". I had abdomen/waist/bra rolls done. Should be smaller. Got a fajas post partum binder, not sure if it gives enough compression, tight tho. Am I gaining weight back or swollen from not wearing binder & only marena bodysuit garments. My Drs staff (3 hrs away) says im to wear my stuff for 6 months daily. I'm so afraid my surgery didn't work. Will my tummy shrink still? I'm 39" around belly button.

With or without applying a binder for the first few weeks post lipo, patients will experience a post-inflammatory reaction to the procedure. Inflammatory fluid collects in the subcutaneous space. Patients are often unhappy that they cannot "see" the results initially. Not to worry! You have already noted a significant improvement in your waistline. After the fluid under your skin subsides (several months) you will be able to appreciate your new shape. Perhaps ask your surgeon about seeking care from a lymphatic massage specialist. If you can,try not to worry so much.  I know that can be tough.  Remember it takes up to 6 months for all swelling to completely resolve.  As long as you follow the directions from your doctor for the post operative care and have a clean/healthy diet you will continue to lose inches and get to the goal you have set for yourself.  Keep up the good work!

Congratulations on your recent surgery. You are only 2 1/2 months post surgery. In our practice, we usually recommend the use of a compression garment for the first 6 weeks to control swelling, prevent bleeding or fluid accumulation. After that time, its usefulness is questionable. 
Resolution of swelling takes 6 months to one year. Be patient.

you need to relax and know that you will improve for 6 months. The best thing you can do to enhance your final results is to work on decrease your total body fat by better eating (I am a huge fan of the ketone supplements - see my web site for details, but there are lots of good diets out there) and increased exercising.I think the value of the garments is vastly over-rated. The garments may help if you have decreased skin tone, as you scar into the correct position. the garments do not prevent you from getting fat, nor do they make more fat disappear.david berman md
