Will activated charcoal effect my Botox treatment?

I had botox injections yesterday to improve wrinkles in my forehead. Today, I took two activated charcoal tablets for an unrelated issue, but now I am concerned this will effect the botox or draw it out of my system?

Botox is injected into the muscle that is being treated, and stays there. It does not enter the bloodstream and therefore will not be affected by an oral remedy, such as activated charcoal. Your Botox should last about 3 to 4 months. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who can help you set up a maintenance schedule for your Botox.

The charcoal should have no effect your Botox.  It is injected into the muscle and stays there.  Always seek treatment from a qualified physician.

Botox can’t be drawn out of the muscle by activated charcoal or any other substance. It doesn’t circulate in the bloodstream. It’s injected into the muscle and it stays there until it gradually wears off on its own, in about 3 to 4 months. Your board-certified dermatologist will be able to educate you more about Botox and its effects, so you don’t have to worry so much about its longevity.

Charcoal will have no effect on your Botox injection.  It will not compromise the results of your cosmetic injections.  The results can only be affected by the amount or dilution of your Botox and maintaining the proper precautions afterwards.  Best, Dr. Green
