I am planning on running an ultra event in late November. My training plan starts in August. If I received a smart lipo procedure on abdomen and flanks and outer thighs, within the next two weeks, would I be able to return to training by the end of August? If not, would scheduling the procedure to take place after the event make more sense? If so, how soon afterwards is recommended? Thank you!
Answer: Smart Lips Timing for Athletic Events Smart Lipo, or laser lipolysis, is a minimally invasive procedure that involves using laser energy to liquefy fat cells, which are then removed through a small cannula. The recovery time for Smart Lipo is generally shorter than traditional liposuction, but it still requires careful consideration, especially for athletes with rigorous training schedules. Given your timeline and the demands of your ultra event training, here are some key points to consider: ### Recovery Timeline: 1. **Initial Recovery Period:** - **Immediate Post-Procedure:** You will likely experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first few days to a week. - **First 1-2 Weeks:** Most patients can return to light activities within a few days, but strenuous activities, including running, should be avoided for at least 1-2 weeks. 2. **Full Recovery:** - **4-6 Weeks:** It typically takes about 4-6 weeks for most of the swelling to subside and for you to feel comfortable resuming more intense physical activities. However, individual recovery times can vary. ### Training Considerations: - **Training Disruption:** If you receive the procedure within the next two weeks, you might be able to resume light training by late August. However, the intensity and volume of training required for an ultra event could be significantly disrupted. - **Optimal Performance:** Your body will need time to fully recover and regain strength. Jumping back into an intense training regimen too soon could hinder your performance and increase the risk of complications or injury. ### Recommendation: Given the importance of your training for an ultra event and the potential impact on your performance, it would be more prudent to schedule the Smart Lipo procedure after your event. This approach ensures that your training is not disrupted and that you can perform at your best. ### Post-Event Procedure Timing: 1. **Recovery Planning:** After your ultra event in late November, you could schedule the Smart Lipo procedure. This timing allows for optimal recovery without the pressure of an impending event. 2. **Post-Procedure Recovery:** - **Early December:** Assuming your event is in late November, scheduling the procedure in early December would give you ample time to recover before resuming any off-season or maintenance training. - **4-6 Weeks Recovery:** You would be looking at a recovery period extending into mid-January, which is typically a lower-intensity training period for many athletes. ### Steps to Take: 1. **Consult with Your Surgeon:** Discuss your athletic goals and training schedule with your surgeon to get personalized advice on the best timing for your procedure. 2. **Plan for Recovery:** Ensure you have a clear understanding of the post-procedure care and the timeline for returning to various levels of activity. By scheduling the procedure after your event, you can focus on your training and competition without the added concern of recovery from surgery. This approach allows you to achieve your athletic goals and then address your aesthetic goals with the necessary time for a full and safe recovery.

Answer: Smart Lipo Smart Lipo is just a marketing term that represents one brand of a laser assisted liposuction device. Lasers are an older technology compared to the newer ones and don’t provide much extra benefit. If you’re looking for more high definition results, you’re gonna want to use the Vaser ultrasound device and if you want skin tightening in conjunction, you’re gonna want to use the Renuvion or body tite device. In regards to recovery you’ll be able to do cardio in a week but if you plan on being very aggressive with your workouts, you’re gonna want to wait six weeks before you do this.
