Can Kenalog be injected into the bridge of the nose one year after rhinoplasty? (Photo)

Question

It's been a little over a year since my rhinoplasty. My tip was still swollen and had scar tissue on one side, causing it to look like a ball under the skin. I recently had Kenalog injections on that side, and it seems to be diminishing. Can Kenalog can also be injected on the bridge of the nose ? When I stretch the skin back, it looks a lot better. I'm not sure if there is excess scar tissue. Photo w towel on my head is one week after injection , the rest are before injection. Thx (:

I have to say that you have an impressive narrowing of your tip and bridge, one week after your Kenalog injection. The good news is that you're clearly persistently swollen, even though you're one year postoperative. We may utilize Kenalog for supratip swelling because the skin is thick there. Bridge skin is thin and not suitable for Kenalog, in my opinion. If your nose does not continue to move in the right direction over the next several months, you should certainly bring these concerns to the attention of your surgeon. I hope this helps. It can be done to reduce the swelling in the tip but it cannot be hundred percent effective. The main problem in your nose is the bulbous tip. Not the bridge. And the columella protrudes to much. If it bothers you, you may need an revision case. The healing can take up to 2 years. 1 year is still early for that. But you can try the Kenalog injection for the tip and see how it is going.

Kenalog is an anti-inflammatory steroid. It is helpful in reducing inflammation. In one year after surgery, there should be no inflammation and your results are final.
Steroid injections are most likely not going to create any change, but do recognize that steroid injections have potential serious side effects?
One of the side effects of steroid injections is fat atrophy. Normally steroid injections create no fat atrophy. Fat atrophy is a fairly rare occurrence, but when it happens, it can be completely devastating. Kenalog is not something that should be used for fat production ever. When the rare side effect of fat atrophy happens, typically all the fat in the area, completely dissipates, leaving a skeletonized disfigured appearance.
Like I mentioned, it’s not a common side effect, but there are definitely risks with Kenalog injections.
In my opinion, there is no benefit so the risk benefit ratio is poor for this idea.
If you have concerns about the outcome of your rhinoplasty to the point of considering revision surgery, then follow up with your provider and discuss your concerns with him or her.
To make an accurate assessment regarding rhinoplasty surgery we generally need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures, including proper profile pictures. If you don’t have a complete set of proper before and after pictures, then ask your surgeon to forward the pictures they took.
All patients should have a complete set of before and after pictures at this point after their procedure.
