Will a tummy tuck help with back fat as well?

A tummy tuck addresses the skin and fat on the abdomen.  Depending on how much excess skin you have this may be done with either a standard hip to hip incision or a more limited incision.  It does not address excess skin and fat on the back.

Thank you for your question.  Unfortunately, a tummy tuck does not address back fat. It can tighten a separated abdominal muscle and remove loose skin from the abdomen.  Many people who have a tummy also have some liposuction performed at the same time to remove some isolated areas of fat and provide a smoother contour, but liposuction of the back would be considered a separate procedure. Many body contouring procedures including abdominoplasty begin with the patient on the stomach so that the waist area can be suction. This will improve not only the lower part of the back but the size as well. Abdominoplasty can be designed to help shape the waist by careful reconstruction of the abdominal wall.

A tummy tuck will affect the tissue on the abdomen from hip to hip.  It doesn't affect the fat or skin of the back.  That can be addressed by liposuction.  

A tummy tuck will only help the anterior trunk or abdominal area. It will not do anything to improve the back rolls. Options for helping with the back include liposuction or a back lift depending on the amount of skin laxity present. 

Hello and thank you for your question.   The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  If you have excess back fat, back liposuction can be performed at the same time.  If you are an appropriate candidate for a tummy tuck, this can be done through a low and short
incision, all completely below the bikini line. 
The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on
the exterior.   Your muscles can also be
plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. 
Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of
real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate
their results.  The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are
comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified
board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

A traditional tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, Will not address excess skin on your back. A circumferential procedure can take away some of the skin on the back, however the procedure that really addresses the issue of skin on the mid and upper back is a bra-line back lift.  Seek a consultation from a board certified plastic surgeon. Thank you for sharing your question.  A tummy tuck is performed to help address muscle laxity/separation and excess skin of the stomach alone.  It will not impact the rolls of back fat that you describe.  These rolls are usually addressed with either liposuction or a bra-line body lift.  Be sure to address this with your plastic surgeon during your consultation.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. Most tummy tucks do not address the back. The exception is the fluer-de-lis tummy tuck, which circles the waist to remove all excess skin from the front, sides and back. This type of tummy tuck is usually reserved for people who have lost a significant amount of weight, often through bariatric surgery. If you’re concerned with milder types of bulges on your back, ask your surgeon about using liposuction to remove back fat in addition to your tummy tuck.
