Post-op day 2&3 I've ran a temp around 99.6. I called my surgeon and he said that is normal after surgery to run slightly high. But this morning, post-op day 4, I'm running around 100.3-100.6. Should I be concerned or is that still a normal temperature to run after surgery?

Answer: Low grade Temperature after Surgery Low grade temperatures during the first 48 hours are most often due to the lungs. Taking several deep breaths several times during the day should take care of it, if this is the cause. If you had a catheter and are expeiencing any burniing, you could have a urinary tract infection. If the IV site is tender contact your doctor, especially if the fever persists. Generally wound infections take 4-5 days before they begin to show up.

Answer: Low Grade Temp - Normal postop Thanks for your question. Do not worry, this is very common after any type of surgery. As long as it responds to Tylenol and does not progress and you feel better each day. Everyone responds to surgery differently and a low grade temp is very common. Good luck on your recovery!!!
