Is there ANY way to refund a non surgery payment?

Each office has its own financial policy which you should read thoroughly to understand the ramifications. In our practice, we tend to give the patients refund minus a few hundred dollars as a cancellation fee, depending upon the time of the cancellation. When cancelling  a rhinoplasty procedure very close to the day of the surgery, it is  important to understand that the entire surgical team has been assembled for that patient for those several hours for which the procedure takes place. This involves multiple nurses, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeon for you, the patient. In addition, the clinic must be closed to allow the surgeon to  perform the rhinoplasty in the operating room. Canceling surgery at the last minute creates havoc In both the operating room and the clinic. Best to contact your surgeon and asked them about their financial policy.

Payment policies vary from surgeon to surgeon. Generally speaking a portion of the fee should be refunded if the surgery is not performed. Non refundable deposits however, should not be refunded, in most cases. In our practice we require a 20% does payment at the time of surgery scheduling and full payment 2 weeks before the surgery. Cancellation of the surgery by the patient results in lose of the deposit. The reason for this is that a surgeon is often unable to utilize his time for other patients with short notice. However, if the surgery is cancelled in a timely fashion then only the deposit is held. The deposit is credited toward the surgery if it is performed at a future date. There are exceptions to the rule such as family emergencies and health related issues. Of course if the surgeons cancels because of their schedule all money is refunded. Check with your surgeon and see if he will refund a portion of your money. I am sure if you are reasonable they will be reasonable. Good luck.

Usually the refund policies are written in your pre operate consent forms, which you have signed if you already paid in full. Best to read those again since each surgeon has their own policies!

Everyone has a different policy. It is hard to imagine that you cannot get some of your money back if you have not had the surgery. You may loose a portion of your payment.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
