Gynecomastia surgery time can vary greatly depending on how the surgery is to be done, the technique of your surgeon, and the experience of your surgeon. For my patients for a standard male breast reduction surgery it will take about 2.5 hours. Full recovery is about 6 weeks to get back to full activities. HI,Thanks for your question. Gynecomastia is a common condition suffered by adolescent males. When a boy hits puberty, a great deal of the male sex hormone, testosterone, is produced. This can be converted in peripheral tissue into estrogen (the female sex hormone) and the result can be swelling of the nipples and glandular tissue under the nipples.Frequently this swelling resolves over time, but if it persists it can be quite embarrasing. The treatment of gynecomastia can start with liposuction of the chest and can work up to full surgical excision of the breast gland (if necessary). Typical surgery times range from 1-2 hours. I find that liposuction accompanied by a small surgical excision of tissue under the nipple is usually sufficient for 75% of my gynecomastia patients. Recovery is fairly quick (10-14 days) and the scar usually is inconspicuous.The average cost is around $5000. My average time for treatment of a typical gynecomastia would be 2 to 2.5 hours, in the room to out of the  room time, which includes putting the patient to sleep, performing the procedure and waking the patient up.  In cases where skin removal or "free nipple graft" is needed, additional time would be necessary.  The average cost (excluding anesthesia, facility fee and miscellaneous costs) is approximately $3100 according to a recent survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  Recovery from surgery also depends on the exact type of surgery, and can range from 2 weeks for straight forward liposuction to 6 weeks in cases of "anchor-type" breast reduction with "free nipple grafts".I hope this answer proves helpful. Good luck!

Skin excess in addition to the fat & glandular tissue might need to be addressed with skin excision procedures.We prefer to do the Lipo procedure under LA with sedation & the larger excisional procedures under GA.
