Lip filler recovery time?

Question

What is the general recovery time of lip augmentation using injectable fillers? I will definitely not be getting anymore than one syringe, as I don't want to over do it.

Lips can swell after fillers. The degree of swelling depends on the individual plus a couple of other factors. For most patients a day or two is all they will need to feel comfortable, especially with one syringe of filler. The biggest thing that you can do to reduce your swelling is to reduce your salt intake for 3 days before your first treatment,and watch your salt the first day after your treatment. The more salt you take in, the more water your body holds onto-resulting in more swelling. I generally recommend not taking any aspirin or advil, motrin, etc for two weeks before your treatment to help minimize bruising.

Every patient's recovery time is different after any procedure. Typically lip swelling after filler will significantly decrease after 2-3 days but for some patients it may last as long as 5-7 days. Any swelling or bruising should be completely gone by two weeks. We recommend that you increase your water in-take before and after injection.

Most patients swell at least 2 days but rarely more than a week.  If you use a thinner filler such as Volbella then it is not hydrophillic and does not pull water in as does the older fillers.

The lips are a very vascular area so expect some swelling and potentially some bruising.  Usually the swelling will subside in 48-72  hours but in some patients it can take longer.  Usually by 2 weeks everything has settled down.  You should consult with your provider to determine how many syringes are needed to give you the desired result.  An experienced injector should be able to give you a natural look without "over doing it".

Thank you for your question. Dermal fillers area great at volumizing and for contouring of the lips. Bruising and swelling are to be expected and usually last a few days. However, it may take up to two weeks to resolve completely. One to two syringe of dermal fillers are usually needed for best results. All the best, Dr.Michon

Thanks for the question. Lip filler injection is a quick treatment. Some bruising and swelling can be expected after the treatment and will usually resolve completely over the the first few days post treatment. In some cases though the swelling and bruising can take up to 14 days to resolve. Good luck!
