Should I get a Chemical Peel before or after my Facelift?

It is quite common to have a face lift procedure performed
at the same time as a deep chemical peel.
That being said it is impossible to perform an entire face peel at the
same time as a lift. The peel is
generally limited to the perioral and/or lower lids.

TCA peel or laser resurfacing can be performed before, during or after facelift surgery. If you decided to delay your facelift, a skin resurfacing procedure will improve the quality of your skin without significant tightening of you neck or jowls. Your facelift surgeon can advise you when would be the appropriate time for your skin resurfacing procedure. 

A chemical peel can be performed before, during or after a facelift. If you must postpone your facelift procedure, a peel done now should make your skin look more revitalized and healthy. Discuss peel options with your surgeon in terms of what will be best for you.

A chemical peel can be done before or after a facelift. It can also be repeated in most cases. I usually recommend the facelift and peel are done at the same time so that there is only one recovery.

It is
fine to do a chemical peel at the
same time as facial rejuvenation if you have a thick skin flap. This will allow
for one recovery if done with a Facelift. This should be done in the hands of a
Board Certified Plastic
Surgeon with expertise in facial laser and/or chemical peel resurfacing.

– superficial, medium, or deep and the effects can be a great complement for a
facelift. Deep chemical peels can be
uncomfortable and some patients may require some mild sedation for these
procedures. Often times, I recommend for
my patients to undergo facial resurfacing (chemical or laser) at the same time
as the facelift as they will be sedated from the facelift anyway and can also
recover from both during the same recovery period.  Best wishes!

It really does not make much of a difference if you have the peel before or after your surgical procedure. However, if you were to contemplate a more aggressive resurfacing as with a laser, for example, I would do the lift first since the wrinkles could be less deep and the folds less prominent making it easier to resurface.

Your question is very insightful.  As you are aware, face lift procedures adjust the volume and position of the aged tissues while skin care and lasers enhance the outer skin envelope.  The procedures work in harmony and the results are most pronounced when both components are addressed.  There are a number of advances in skin care treatments from peels to lasers.  The balance will be: more aggressive the skin treatment= the longer recovery= more pronounced result.  Doing the facelift or skin treatment first, in my opinion, is more dependent on how the recoveries fit into your schedule. Of course, you will want to allow enough time for healing between treatments.In the end, doing both treatments will lead to harmony in your goal for rejuvenation.

If there's going to be 4 to 5 months between your facelift and a peel it's up to you which one you would want to do first. There just needs to be sufficient time between each procedure. My personal preference would be to perform the facelift first reevaluate and result months later and perform a peel if necessary.
