Bump coming back after rhinoplasty or is it just swelling?

The nasal bonees heal by forming a callous. This will often give the patient a slight fullness to the bridge of the nose. Generally this will resolve on its own, but may benefit from a steroid injection if it persists. Be patient, noses will change alot over the first year as the healing process proceedes.

It's still too soon to tell what your final results will be. You need to have patience with your body as it begins to heal. The skin, bone and cartilage are all traumatized during surgery. Inflammation (swelling) is the normal response and will help your nose to heal and look beautiful in the end. If, one year from now, you are unhappy with your nose, then that is the time to think about a revision procedure. Right now, concentrate on other things you like to do and let your nose and under eyes take the time to heal. You have to give yourself some more healing time.  Your nose and surrounding areas are going to be swollen for a while and you should be consulting the surgeon that performed the procedure but give yourself some time before going back in so some of it can subside. It can take up to a year for final results.

It is way too early to judge the result. The area of hump reduction typically has more swelling that adjacent areas due to manipulation of that area during hump reduction. A residual small fullness or hump at that site in the early and intermediate postoperative area is not unusual. Make sure you adhere to your surgeon's recommendations and if you have concern, follow-up with him or her. Sometimes taping is performed at night, sometimes compression exercise or gentle massaging can be done. But don't do anything without YOUR surgeon's permission. Best wishes!

Thank you for your question.  Yes, it is very early and the small bump should go away. Sometime gently massaging the area can help facilitate lessening of the "bump."   Please check with your surgeon before starting any massaging of the area.  Ultimately, it is your surgeon's decision as to your postop care.  Good luck.

Since you got your cast taken off just a week ago, which is a very short period of time, the nose is most definitely still swollen and will be going through more or less visible changes in the period of the following two to six months (time necessary for the tissues and structures to heal properly). Bumps that may appear from swelling are a normal part of the recovery process, but if the bump is still present after the abovementioned period, you should contact your primary surgeon. 

It is difficult to say without seeing photos and knowing exactly what was performed.  Nevertheless, it is important to understand the need for patience.  Rhinoplasty is often considered one of the most difficult cosmetic procedures, because you will not see your final results for many months.   Although the majority of swelling has resolved within 60 days, you will notice changes for 9-12 months (sometimes longer).  It is important to personally communicate these concerns to your surgeon

Swelling after surgery is perfectly normal. With that said the cast used after surgery accomplishes two important functions.
1. Maintaining nasal bones in position after osteotomies (controlled cutting/fracturing of the bone).
2. Control swelling.
After the removal of the cast you may also see light swelling. Remember final results will not be seen until you reach the 6 to 12 month mark.
