Very bad cough 6 days after lipo. Is there more of a chance this is pneumonia than any other time?

I had lipo of hips outter thighs and stomach 6 days ago. Was under general anesthesia and surgery lasted 2 hours in the hospital. Board certified plastic surgeon. I felt a tickle in my throat after surgery. Thought it was probably normal due to tube in my throat. Slowly this has turned into a very bad cough with phlem. I don't have a temperature and feel fairly good considering. I have been moving around and swelling has gone down. Normally I wouldn't go to Dr. Should I now?

i suggest you see your physician this can be bad luck or related to the anesthesia possibly, but you should be on antibiotics to ensure no complications. Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello and thank you for your question. I would definitely seek a physical exam from your primary care provider based on the symptoms you are describing. You are more susceptible to developing a respiratory infection after being intubated and under general anesthesia as your lungs have partial collapse during the procedure.
