I was curious if it was safe to have multiple procedures done at one time? For instance, a breast lift with possible implant, tummy tuck, and extra skin removal on the arms and legs. Would this be a doable procedure with satisfying results?

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. Although it’s possible to do all this in a healthy patient, giving consideration to the challenging recovery process would be wise. Specifically the risk of blood clots and inability moving around, not to mention pain management.

Multi procedure surgery is common.  Often patients just want to get things done and have all of their healing finished within the same time.  Choosing these procedures will likely different amongst plastic surgeons.  You have mentioned four significant procedures.  Performing them on a large person is much more of a strain on their body for healing compared to a smaller person who may require overall less surgery for correction.  In your situation, consultation, a plastic surgeon may want to discuss accomplishing things at 2 different surgeries.  Almost any combination of 2 surgeries can be considered.  It is common to do the arm surgery along with the breast surgery.  It is also very common to combine a tummy tuck with breast surgery.  A person with any medical problems may have to have single procedures only.  Your plastic surgeon will help you determine your expectations and what combination would be safe and best for you.

Safety depends on overall health, lab work, blood pressure, BMI, operative time, and recovery capacity. When properly planned and staged if needed, combining a breast lift with or without implants, tummy tuck, and selective skin removal can deliver very satisfying, balanced results.

Great question! Yes and no. It depends on the patient and on the combination of procedures. In your case I feel it is too much. It is best to put all these procedures on a list if priorities when talking to your surgeon so you can both com up with a surgical plan that is best for you. Dividing the procedure up in two or three rounds would not only be safer but it will give you better results !

While it is possible to perform all of those procedures at a single session, if performed by a single surgeon, may take well greater than 7-8 hours.  Complications gradually increase with the length of surgery so most surgeons try to limit the operative time to 6 hours or less.  One possible option is to ask if your plastic surgeon would consider operating with another trusted plastic surgeon to reduce your operative time.  A reasonable way to split these surgeries is 1st the breast procedures and the tummy tuck combined, followed a month or 2 later with the arms and legs.  This increases safety and decreases your risk of complications.   Best wishes.

While it may be possible to perform everything in one setting, the recovery would be extremely difficult. Getting up and moving around with abdomen, breasts, arms and legs would be difficult. Unfortunately, after massive weight loss, stages are commonly planned.

Rather for safety, recovery, we recommend staging these procedures.

Many combinations are possible. Generally, tummy tuck with or without breasts is one option. Also, breasts with arms as one stage, tummy tuck with or without thighs as another one or two stages. Time between depends upon recovery- usually several weeks to months.

Combining procedures is common and considered safe but there is a imit.  Generally it's recommended to limit  elective plastic surgery to six hours of operating time.  Considering the procedures you mentioned you may be better off breaking this into two stages.  This is both for your safety as well as to optimize your outcome.
