The upper one third of the nose is made of bone the lower two thirds is made of cartilage. The boney arch can be thinned low down near the face and sometimes an intermediate thinning or osteotomies is performed which is usually done when the nose is twisted.

If you see an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon the chances of a botched rhinoplasty is virtually zero. I have done rhinoplasty for more than 35 years without a botched nose. You are worrying about something that is not realistic. 

Different strokes for different noses and surgeons. I do not use struts myself but many fine surgeons do. Focus on shooting the surgeon whose noses you like and let him worry about how he does it!

Without physical examination it's impossible to say but it looks as though there may be asymmetric swelling in the tip. Even at eight months one can expect improvement going forward. Remain patient.
