I have yet to find anyone with a nose shaped quite like mine. Even in my own family. I am bit self conscious about it as to me it makes my face look odd. The bridge appears quite wide forward facing, however side facing/at an angle or looking upward it appears to be less pronounced. Is the shape abnormal? If so, what causes this? Something I should consider correction for?
Answer: Nose Bridge to Wide Dear, Marie. If you are concerned with the appearance of your nose then this is something that can be improved with surgery. In general the upper third of the nose is bone and the bottom two thirds of the nose is cartilage. Both areas of the bridge would likely need to be addressed if you want to narrow the bridge. This is something that is commonly performed in rhinoplasty surgery. I would recommend going to a consultation, at that time the specific procedure and recovery can be explained in more detail.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty. Your surgeon can accomplish this by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. You may also benefit from osteotomies to narrow your nasal vault. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
