Areola reduction-revision - is there a way to close the incision apart from suturing? (photos)

I had areola reduction almost 13 months ago. I am not happy with the result for 2 reasons : it needs further reduction and also the scar and sutures are very visible. Is any special suture technique used for this? is it any other way to close the incision around areola apart from suturing? Thank you

Hello and thank you for your question! It appears as though you had external sutures in a "baseball seam" running fashion which led to the "rail road" appearance on the scar. It is possible to suture the incision with all buried "under the skin surface" sutures which would reduce the risk of this particular type of scarring. Areola reduction in general may be prone to scar widening, but for the proper patient, the results can be great!

for scars, I close all of my incisions in 5 layers and do not use absorbable sutures because they cause inflammation and worse scarring. I tape all of my incisions in the office visits once a week for six weeks after surgery to improve the appearance. After taping, I start my patients on a scar gel therapy for 3 months that they have to put on their incisions twice daily.You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon as different surgeons have different approaches in scar management.
