What is the safest and best treatment for an indentation in my inner right thigh?

I am 55 years old with a very obvious indentation in my inner right thigh. My mother once told me this indentation developed because of an IV left in place for too long when I because ill as a child. The indentation is void of subcutaneous fat. As I am losing muscle mass, this dent is becoming more pronounced, even when wearing pants. I've thought about fat grafting, but I'm afraid the fat won't survive. I am becoming very depress, and would like to know if there is a more permanent solution.

It sounds like you have done your research.  Although you have not included a photo, I think that based on your description there is no better procedure for what you have described than fat grafting.  Fat grafting is safe, there is an abundant supply, and techniques have improved over the past few years so that grafted fat survival is more predictable.  You may require a couple of sessions, but each session is quite well tolerated and you can eventually get the result you are hoping for.

Hello Liz. The indentation in your right inner thigh can be greatly improved by fat grafting (or fat transfer). Fat grafting is a procedure where fat is liposuctioned from another area of your body and transferred to the area missing volume. The procedure can be done under local with IV sedation or under general anesthesia.  Fat grafting is a more permanant solution compared to fillers. Fat has a 50-75% chance of surviving once injected. A consult with a board certified plastic surgeon is the first place to start. There may be less invasive alternatives, depending on the severity of the missing volume. Good luck!
