For lip injections, is there away to also make the lips wider? Are there any lip fillers that stay longer than 6 months?

Fillers can be used for fuller thicker lips and sometimes for a better definition of lip border. adding volume to the lips can make them look wider (in general) but if you want to make the lips longer then there is a minor surgery that can be done to lengthen the lips

One of the most popular procedures in my office is lip augmentation.  I also enjoy the procedure as I am able to creatively sculpt a more full, youthful, attractive and naturally appearing lip.  If wider means thicker and more full, then yes, dermal fillers can do this.  If you are referring to making your mouth wider, then no, injections cannot achieve this.  In terms of longevity, the most popular fillers for lips last about 6-7 months.  The lips have a great deal of muscle activity and the hyaluronic acid products get degraded quicker in the lips due to the movement and repetitive activity of the lips.  I stay away from permanent fillers and implants in the lips.  You will get other opinions but the risks of palpable irregularities, unnatural feel, and unsightly appearance outweighs the upsides for the argument for permanent fillers.

Thank you for your question.  It’s difficult to change the shape of your lips with filler. Slowly filling them with an HA filler can help, but it is more natural to enhance our own lips rather than change the shape.  Most fillers last 6-8 months in the lips, since you move your mouth and lower face so much they metabolize quicker than fillers in the upper face.  Be sure you are seeing an experienced injector and you know what’s being placed in your lips.

It is difficult to have greater than 6 months duration with filler because the movement of the lips causes higher absorption rates. Different fillers have different properties and you should have a detailed discussion about each option with your injector.
