When can you take a hot bath after tummy tuck, lipo, and breast reduction?

Thank you for your question! For most patients having a tummy tuck or breast procedure, the surgical glue stays on for 3-4 weeks post surgery. When all of the surgical glue is off, and the incisions are completely closed and healing as they should, it is safe to submerge the incisions in bath water. However, I recommend waiting until 6 weeks post op, before getting into a pool or ocean. I hope this helps!

I advise my patients that they can swim in a pool or the ocean, or take a hot bath after six weeks. This is to minimize risk of infection. This may vary by surgeon though so it is best to ask yours for her/his opinion.

I certainly understand the desire for a hot bath to relax and unwind.  At 4 weeks post op your incisions should be completely healed.  Once your incisions are closed you should be able to take a bath.  I recommend you see your plastic surgeon for an evaluation and follow their instructions.

 This is something you should get clearance from your surgeon for so that it can be determined that your incisions are completely healed. Good luck.

It's ok to take a bath once all of the incisions have healed. I'd suggest booking an appointment with your surgeon to be examined and get the all-clear before you do. Hope that helps! 

Anastasia. I appreciate your concern, however if all wounds have completely healed, you should be able to take a hot bath at this time. Consult with your plastic surgeon first to confirm my advice. Good luck.

Dear Anasthasia,   You should call your surgeon and ask for his recommendation for taking bath. In my practice, patients are allowed to take short lukewarm water shower after 3 days , but avoid the stream from hitting the surgery area for 2 weeks. That is done to avoid bleeding and swelling. Patients are allowed to take bath after 2 weeks, as long as all wounds are healed well and there are no open wounds.  As far as your multiple surgeries, congratulation for escaping severe complication which can occur when combining tummy tuck and liposuction (X 10) or breasts reduction (X 2-3) as oppose to tummy tuck alone. Cosmetic surgery is purely elective ans complication rate should be reduced to a minimum. Also, long operations result in surgeon's fatigue , which can compromise the surgery outcome.   Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Heat is totally forbidden after surgery of soft tissues like is the majority of Plastic Surgeries or Reconstructive because it will cause a lot of swelling.So no heat, no steam, no sauna, no hot tub or jacuzzi.You may get a superficial massage of the back.Dr. Cardenas

Hi and thanks for your question. I advise my patients that they should avoid bathing or sitting in hot tubs for 4 weeks or so after surgery. If the incision is completely healed and closed it should not be a problem, but one should always ask their own surgeon about their protocol. Good Luck!

Anastasia_B   Hi There , Thank You for Your Question .  If all wounds have completely healed, you should be able to take a hot bath not problem . I recommend two weeks after this procedures to take baths , not to hot , just make sure you clean your incisions carefully try not to scratch them , just get the water running on them , you will be fine , if you have more concerns please talk to your doctor .
