Would allergies to penicillin and Metformin interfere with Juvederm?

Question

I was suppose to get juvaderm lip injections today. Ended up calling the day before to make sure a steroid and antibiotic I’m currently taking for strep throat would not have a reaction to the injections. They said because I’m allergic to penicillin and metformin (Swelling of mouth and throat) that I was no longer a candidate for injections

Hi,Thank you for your question. Penicillin allergy and metformin does not interact with Juvederm. Since fillers and neuromodulators are elective procedures, some providers will advise against treatment when feeling unwell.Hope this helps!

It is most likely because you're being actively treated for strep throat. Once you're finished with your medication, you should be able to have fillers. It will take 1-2 weeks for final results. Best, Dr. Emer

Allergies to Metformin and Penicillin should not have any effect on a Juvederm injection.  However, many providers recommend that you be healthy without any current infections to undergo any procedure or treatment.

Thankyou for your question.Firstly anyone with sore throat or viral illness should not have filler until well. We are concerned about future hardening of the product. Re penicillin and metformin allergies there no issue in having filler so enjoy and good luck!

An allergy to metformin or penicillin is not a contraindication to having filler injections. However, I would wait until your steroid and antibiotic treatments are completely and you have recovered from your illness before having you filler treatment.

I think you may have misunderstood, it was not metformin and the antibiotics but rather the condition of having a strep throat that precluded you from having the injections. Once you're all well you can have the treatment of any kind you like. Good luck from New York City
