The weight of tissue removed in a full tummy tuck and liposuction of the flanks is highly variable. In my own series of patients, the range was 1/2 a pound to 13 pounds with an average of almost 5 pounds for the weight removed by a tummy tuck alone. Liposuction of the trunk (abdomen and flanks) adds about a liter, or about 2 pounds, of additional weight loss. Patients often think it should be more than this, but 5 pounds weighs a lot! Look at my website if you wish. The weight of the removed tissue is listed with the photos. You might find one that resembles you. Thanks for your inquiry.
This is highly variable and is usually less than you would anticipate. I always explain to my patients that these are both contouring procedures and not weight loss procedures. Weight loss should be achieved through exercise and a healthy diet. Thank you for the question. Joseph C. Berardi MD
It is difficult to accurately answer as the amount of weight removed depends upon how much tissue one has to remove. Very tiny patients with only loose skin to remove may lose less than 1/2 pound, while those with more excess skin and fat may lose several pounds. The procedure is not going to replace the benefits received from diet and exercise, but can substantially enhance the abdominal contour when there is loose skin that cannot be reduced by any other means.
You usually don't lose much weight with a tummy tuck and liposuction of the flanks. Usually less than five pounds unless you were very large to start with. You do however, lose inches.
