I have duck lips after Juvederm, when will I look normal?

I had them injected with Juvederm and my left side of upper lip is fatter than my right side 5 days ago, they look so ugly and I don't look like myself. they feel pretty hard too. any idea when will the swelling go down. I'm thinking about diffusing Juvederm.

Hello,As the other panel members suggested, you may be experiencing persistent swelling.  However, after five days, if the swelling is not improving, we suggest you return to your injector to address your concerns.  Swelling could also be aggravated if you are massaging or manipulating the area.  Icing at this time will not offer much value.  You may want to try over the counter Ibuprofen with Benadryl to "quiet down" the swelling.

It takes 1-2 weeks for final results with lip augmentation. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that your current results have caused you concern.  Swelling after filler placement into the lips is quite common due to the thin nature of the tissues.  This swelling, and your results, will steadily improve over the next 10-14 days.  It often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  Hang in there!

Thank you for your question.  It is not uncommon to have swelling after Juvederm injection, especially within the first few days after injection.  I usually will tell my patients to expect approximately 72 hours of swelling, and you should start to see a full resolution at 5 days, now.  If this does not fully resolve, be sure to discuss with your injector as you may need a small amount of hyaluronidase on the fuller side.  I hope that this helps!-David Gilpin

So sorry to hear that you’re having a bad experience after getting JUVÉDERM®. It is possible that at five days after injections, you could still be experiencing normal swelling. However, you should begin to notice an improvement in this side effect over the next few days. If you don’t see an improvement, I would suggest checking in with your injector to discuss your concerns. Keep in mind that dissolving your JUVÉDERM® is an option if you’re still unhappy with your results once all swelling has diminished. Best of luck to you!

The lips are particularly sensitive so post treatment swelling is fairly common. And it is often not even. Give your body a couple of weeks to heal before judging your results. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question.  Sorry that you are having some concerns about your postprocedure appearance.  Swelling after treatment with Juvederm is common, especially when the lips are treated.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow for normal postprocedure swelling to fully resolve and to see your final result.  Icing is beneficial for up to 48 hours after the treatment.  Arnica may also be helpful for minimizing normal postprocedure swelling and bruising.  If you continue to have any concerns at 2 weeks (final result), please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation to fully discuss your concerns and to determine the best course of action.  Any unwanted filler can be easily removed at that time.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

Lips will swell for several days to two weeks after Juvederm.  Hard areas can  be massaged.  Juvederm usually softens over time and if the same amount was injected on  each side, the swelling should go down and then the lips should be even.  If you still unhappy with them, go back to the original injector.

Swelling and bruising are common after lip injections and can persist up to two weeks.  Gentle massage of the firm areas may be helpful.  If after two weeks you still have concerns, return to your injector for an evaluation.

Thank you for your question. The lips are a very sensitive area, and it's not uncommon to experience swelling for up to 2 weeks after any filler injections.  Sometimes this swelling can be uneven, and can make the lips appear lopsided or asymmetric.  Juvederm can also initially feel hard and lumpy immediately after injection - over the course of several weeks, Juvederm gradually absorbs water and softens, blending into your lips.  As it has only been 5 days, it's impossible to assess what your final results will be until your swelling have fully subsided.  
For now, I would suggest gently applying ice or cool compresses to your lips.  If the swelling or asymmetry persist for more than 2 weeks, please follow-up with your injector to discuss your concerns and to have any necessary corrections to even out your lips.  Your injector may be able to massage out any remaining lumps at that time, or dissolve them with hyaluronidase if needed.  Best of luck!
