I have attached a photo. I am also surprised that the doctor didn't stitch me up with a cut this size. Do I have reason to be concerned?

Its not unusual to have some swelling after a mole is biopsied or excised. As long as the area isn't red, painful, or discharging pus, or you have a fever, then infection is unlikely. If still present after 1 month, best to show your dermatologist.
