Answer: An unusual story of liposuction Most plastic surgeons limit liposuction to less than 5 L per procedure. When more fat is removed, then it is appropriate to keep patients in the hospital.15 L is the most I've heard of anyone removing during a single procedure. With that amount of fat removed, I would anticipate major physiological changes and potentially blood loss to the point of needing blood transfusions. The injuries you show appear to be full thickness, or third-degree, skin loss.Typically, such areas need to be surgically removed, and wound care needs to be started.Make sure you're being properly managed. You should be staying in close contact with your plastic surgeon.Ask him or her for a detailed plan of action for getting you through this.Since you're still alive, you will probably do better and better with time as the healing process continues.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
