Spitting suture, can it heal on its own?

I have a spitting suture, I won't b able to c my doc for another 20 days. At the vertical incision point, behind areola, 3 weeks after a anchor incision breast implant. 210cc.

Hello! Thank you for your question!  This is not uncommon for sutures to "spit out".  This typically will have on pact on your overall result and healing. If dissolvable, it would likely fall off and heal without issues. However, it would be best to have your surgeon evaluate and treat this properly along with give wound healing instructions. Thanks for your question.  Although an extruding suture will sometimes completely fall out and heal on its own, it is better to seek a physician to remove it.  The wound will heal quicker and this should decrease the risk of infection.

Thanks for your question. Sorry you are going through this. I recommend you see a surgeon soon. A surgeon will clean the incision and remove the spitting suture. Your incision will certainly heal more quickly. Hope this helps.

I recommend that you see a surgeon who is qualified to treat this.  Many times a sterile small scissor and forceps( tweezers) can be used to trim, the exposed stitch.

Sometimes this can happen when the suture does not dissolve fast enough or that it just wants to come to the service.  Often times your PS will have to cut the suture but for now wash it with soap and water and keep it clean with gauze.

Spitting sutures may come out by themselves, but sometimes they need a little help from your doctor to finish the removal process. The main concern for any urgency would be if you start to see any foul drainage or increased redness or warmth around the site, which are all signs of infection. You should call your plastic surgeon and see if he / she would like to see you sooner to remove the suture.

Thank you for your question. It is best to have the exposed suture removed as your wound will heal faster with less chance of infection. Even a GP can remove it for you. In 3 weeks it will probably fall out on it's own, but it is better to have it removed.
