I have been to three Board Certified plastic surgeons for consultations about a BA, and have been measured by two doctors which resulted in two different BWD measurements: one said 11 and 11.5, one said 12.5/13... ??? Now I am confused about sizing. I chose my surgeon already and he is the one who I measured smaller with, but the BWD of 11 seems small compared to other women. How do I know that he is measuring me correctly and that the BWD he got is accurate?
Answer: Breast width varies by surgeon Some surgeon measure from the "anterior axillary line" to the mid-chest, others measure just the breast mound. It is a reference that the surgeon uses to determine their maximum width of the implant profile.Various methods important to discuss with your surgeon include:1.Goal photographs to demonstrate potential size and shape. This gives your surgeon an idea of “the look” you are going after.2.Trying on sizers in the office. Sizer will give a physical/PALPABLE demonstration of how the implants will change the volume of your breasts. See yourself in a full size mirror while trying on these sizers. We have tight fitting t-shirts to wear over the sizers to show how you will look with the implants.3.Using 3D imaging (offered in my office) to provide a VISUAL demonstration of how the implants will change your breasts and the look that you will likely achieve. The software is super cool (CRISALIX) and actually allows me to select the implant manufacturer and size. Be open with your surgeon and it never hurts to go back a second time with a loved one to confirm the implant size before surgery. I hope this helps.-Dr. Bryson Richards (Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)

Answer: Measurement of BWD Hello, breasts do not have exact borders - they gradually taper off at the edges and blend with the rest of your chest. Measurement of their width is imprecise so there could be a discrepancy between surgeons. Once you have chosen your surgeon, if you are still concerned you could discuss this issue and they could confirm their measurements.

Answer: Measuring for the perfect breast augmentation Everyone measures a bit different. In general going from 1-2 cm off midline to the start of the axilla will give a nice full breast which is aesthetically pleasing. The measurement is not fool proof. I generally bring several sizers close to the measured width with me to test different implants as subtle differences in implant shape, width, or size can make a significant change. By doing so the implant is truly customized to provide the best breast augmentation result. It allows me to choose the perfect implant to match the ideal goals my patients describe before surgery...which brings up the point...making certain that you and your surgeon have the same vision for the end result is more important than how someone measures your breast width. Answer: Breast measurement Breast measurements will vary with different surgeons. I vary my implant choice based upon the patient's goals. The measurements are a guide.
