Lip bruising and swelling after chin dermal filler injection?

Question

Yesterday I had dermal filler injection ( with juvederm voluma) into the chin apex and lateral lower chin (performed by needle) and also into the mental crease ( performed by 25 gauge cannula), few hours later my chin bruised but was surprised that my lower lip swelled and bruised also, and became tender, is this normal? What could be happened? Your help is really appreciated, thank you .

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your lip swelling and bruising.  I am not sure how the dermal filler injection into your chin could have caused the lip symptoms, but the mental crease may have been improperly feathered, leading to some filler placed into the lower lip.  I would talk to your injector for more guidance.

Thank you for your question. Swelling, bruising and tenderness are side effects of the voluma injections. These and other side effects tend to subside within 2 to 4 weeks of the procedure. Please continue to follow the recovery instructions provided by your board certified facial plastic surgeon.

your question addoos. I understand your concern. Voluma is a
filler used to enhance the appearance of the face. Bruising occurs in places where a needle is inserted. Depending on the technique, the needle may be inserted in various areas. Sometimes I inject at a specific point and deposit the product as far as 1 cm from the injection point. Bruising can be seen anywhere between these two points. Please
consult with a doctor for specific recommendations.  Good luck!

I would suggest that you schedule an appointment to see your surgeon. Voluma in the chin shouldn't cause your lips to swell and/or bruise.

I don't think that this is normal. I would see your provider. I typically get minimal swelling when injecting in the chin area with filler. Cannulas, particularly a 25g one, have very little risk of a vascular occlusion as well as bruising.
