What's the first step to avoiding hereditary "jowl-iness"?

I'm in my 30s and am beginning to see the signs of jowls (that all the women in my family have) right beneath my jaw line. I accept that aging happens, but what can I do to help "slow the sag"? Is there a procedure that can tighten the area beneath the jaw that is not invasive?
