Dear Wbob1,Thank you for submitting your question. Creating your own hairline is absolutely possible. An experienced hair restoration surgeon can help you do exactly that. There are some principles which should be adhered to so that the final look is a very natural one, but in terms of designing the hairline, time should be spent by your hair restoration surgeon to help you come up with the hairline that you desire. Sometimes I will just hand the grease pencil (what I use to draw the hairline prior to surgery) to the patient and have them draw in what they’d like. If you find a surgeon who is not flexible with the design of your new hairline, then I would look for a different surgeon. It’s your hairline, so you should get what you want. Sometimes patients will ask me to create a hairline that I know will look unnatural, and if that’s the case, I discuss the principles of hairline design with them. My main concern is that it looks natural. Exactly where the hairline is or the shape of the hairline is more or less in my patients’ hands. I hope this information is helpful to you.
