If you had to give an average estimate of shrinkage in size after Initial BA, how much would you say on average do breast shrink in size after initial BA ? Also, Has there been instances where the breast size actually increased instead of decreasing after initial BA ? Thank you
Answer: Change in shape over 6 months Depending on how the operation is performed, there is not much swelling after surgery. The implants are high and tight, and when they drop, they actually appear more natural and larger.

Answer: Breasts augmentation shrinkage Dear Blutee, Your first question is difficult to answer because it depends on many factors: 1. Patient's natural tissue response to trauma . 2. The amount of trauma caused by surgical technique.3. Ptient's activity after surgery. As a rule of thumb, most of my patients swell , roughly, 1/4 size after surgery. Having said that, I teach my patients to do implants displacement massage which reduced capsule contracture and streched the tissue, allowing the implants to fall into place. That compensates for the swelling reduction and maintaines the desired breass size. As far as additional breasts size increase after breasts augmentation, that can happen after weight gain and sometimes after pregnancy, though most of the time the breasts size goes down after pregnancy . Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive. Best of luck, Dr Widder

Answer: Swelling After Breast Augmentation The swelling after breast augmentation is variable with each patient and the type of procedure that was performed. It typically will take about 1 month for all of the swelling to resolve and sometimes up to 3 months. Sometimes the swelling that is perceived is actually the implants that are high riding that drop over the period of 3 months if the implants were placed under the muscle. The main thing that helps patients is for them to understand that the implants are often in a more high riding position immediately after surgery and that they will be swollen and larger than they will be long term. Patients always do better when they know what to expect. Good Luck, Gaurav

Answer: Swelling after Breast Augmentation The amount of swelling depends on a number of things including whether the implant was placed above or below the muscle, size of the implant in relation to size of the preoperative Breast, and to some extent surgical technique. Subpectiral implants tend to swell a little more than subglandular implants. A large implant in a small framed girl will swell more than a small inplant in a large framed girl. i agree with Dr Morgan...about half a cup size is a good average.
