Is it ok to do plastic surgeries when I have mirena coil inserted?

Question

I know that you have to stop taking birth pills before surgeries but what about mirena coil? I will insert it soon but Im planning to do breast implants revision, double eyelid and other surgeries.

We have the patients stop their birth control pills prior to surgery because it is an easy way to reduce an already small risk.  However, it is certainly not necessary.  In your case, the Mirena is not removable for surgery, so it would to even be a consideration.  If you are a low risk, there should be no problem having breast augmentation with the Mirena in place.

The presence of the coil itself should not affect breast augmentation or plastic surgeries. However, if you are having problems with it, you should have it checked out prior to any surgery. Of course, it is important not to be pregnant.

The IUD would not contraindicate cosmetic surgery as described.  What would cause a cancellation of surgery is an unexpected pregnancy!  It is wise for you to plan ahead in this regard.

There will be no
problem in having a Mirena coil inserted before you undergo the surgeries you
mentioned. Mirena does not work like
birth control pills, wherein estrogen is the primary hormone that is
involved. Estrogen, which is the main
component of most oral contraceptive pills, would put you at risk for
thrombosis or blood clots during surgery while levonorgestrel
in Mirena, is not associated with the risk.
