How soon after explant can scar revision be done? Can scar revision be done with localized numbing? 2 wks post op.

Thank you for sharing your question.  At only two weeks your scars are only just beginning to heal and you should see continued improvement in appearance over the next several months.  I would not entertain a revision for at least 6 months after surgery to ensure that your tissues have returned to a normal pliability and elasticity.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. You are very early in your post operative course. Most scars will look the most red at 4 months, and then better at 10 months or so. Most plastic surgeons will wait a year before most major scar revisions. Having said that, some will move up that timeline a few months. Best to speak with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. They will often have a post operative protocol for you to follow. Together you will be able to make a plan.

Hello!  Thank you for your question!  Typically, scarring progresses from the time of incision for approximately 6 weeks at its maximum.  Some methods to employ during the healing would be scar massage. Also, there are some other modalities with some proven benefits such as silicone sheets (Mederma, ScarGuard) and scar creams either OTC or stronger ones that physicians carry. Some surgeons may await a trip lead to a year, since scar maturation continue s for that length, but consideration after ~3 month she is reasonable for steroid injections or scars revision.  This typically can be done in office under local anesthesia alone. Hope that this helps. I try to wait at least 6 months before doing a scar revision.  In my experience scars do take longer to flatten and look good the second time through.  Good luck, Jane

It takes up to a year for scars to fully mature.  At two weeks post op you are very early in this process.  I recommend continuing to follow the advice of your plastic surgeon.  Protect your scars from all UV exposure.  If needed, you can consider scar revision in 6-9 months.  You can also look into various scar treatments that you can begin once your incisions are fully closed.

Two weeks after surgery is too soon for a scar revision unless the scar is at risk for falling apart. Generally 3-9 months is a reasonable range to consider a scar revision.
