What is in the liposuction fluid injection?

Formulae for liposuction fluid vary by surgeon.  The standard mix is IV fluid (normal saline or Ringers solution) which has electrolytes, with local anaesthetic (lidocaine usually) and adrenaline.  The local anaesthetic is very dilute and some of us feel it helps with post-op discomfort while others omit it entirely.  The adrenaline is designed to cause vasoconstriction of the blood vessels in the fat to reduce bleeding and bruising.  
Some surgeons add antibiotics or other medications and if you are curious about your surgeons standard mixture, I would ask them directly.

The fluid injected before liposuction is called tumescent fluid. It contains epinephrine, lidocaine and sometimes, sodium bicarbonate. This mix helps reduce pain and the bleeding.l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.
