My surgery is next week and I’m spiraling a bit with anxiety. When I was first doing consults, first surgeon said to do umbilical float TT due to lack of skin. Second one thought full TT with vertical scar for old bb was better. I went with the second one since he was a better fit and more experienced with TT’s specifically. I had my preop last week and he reevaluated me and now after stopping breastfeeding and more time in the gym, and thinks the umbilical float would be better, since my vertical scar would be right under my new bb, aka impossible to hide. He said I’m the rare, perfect candidate for umbilical float with minimal upper belly skin, high natural bb and need full muscle repair after twins. I’m nervous because it seems like women often aren’t happy after the umbilical float due to the risk of a too low bb. Thoughts?

Answer: Umbilical Float vs. Full Tummy Tuck Your intuition tells you something is amiss, perhaps you are right. Nearly all women present differently post-partum, but nearly all women want the same result: a naturally flat tight fit appearing abdomen with hourglass shape, aesthetic belly button, and no visible scars in their preferred styles. So it follows that tummy tuck procedures must be modified and individualized to deliver the best outcomes for all. You need a type 1, 2, or 3 tummy tuck.

Answer: To belly button float or not to float? Great question and the post of photos are quite helpful but always best to virtual consult for more details. The use of a belly button float tummy tuck is much less common than previously done over the last 20 years because the results are moderate to poor no matter what kind of candidate you are even if you’re in a deal candidate? Versus doing the full tummy tuck to get muscle tightening for more flat result and residual vertical scar right below the new bellybutton scar or I call that the lollipop or balloon technique, which seems to be a much better option though you do have the vertical scar that can be addressed with a tattoo or just allow healing But again that’s a personal decision in my 47 years of practicing the free float belly button tummy tuck is very very unpredictable and in most cases, the patients aren’t happy. Good luck.
