Based on the photos, it does appear you would benefit from chin-augmentation surgery. As a board- certified plastic surgeon, I perform this procedure often, as the results can be life changing! I prefer the intra-oral approach, which prevents any visible scars on the external skin. In addition, there is not a risk of the implant, over a lifetime, migrating down and becoming “ptotic.” The chin implants used are made of inert silicone, come in a variety of sizes/shapes, and I like to carve them to customize to my patients’ specific anatomy. Downtime is only a few days, so that if you had the surgery on a Thursday, you could be back to a desk job by the very next week. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon in person to discuss your goals and expectations.
A formal evaluation would be needed to determine what's best. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, so we perform a non-surgical chin augmentation treatment with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill as well as Sculptra are injected into the area, improving the overall appearance of the lower face and balancing the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline and improve the chin crease.Implants are still a great option once you are 100% positive that you are ready for a permanent enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert; our practice is located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer
Dear billylepage,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you would benefit from chin augmentation. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

So the chin implant would be the best option for you. If you are also concerned about weak jawline, you can also consider the jaw implant as well to make the stronger jawline. For more accurate plans, you should have in-person consultation with a surgeon.
The side profile photographs demonstrate a recessive chin profile for which a chin implant can certainly improve. The implant is designed to augment the Bony mandible forward, and is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes. In our practice, we place the implant through a small incision underneath the chin under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
With your horizontally short chin either a large chin implant or a sliding genioplasty would be of benefit. How much change you are seeking requires computer imaging to evaluate. With a short chin comes high and indistinct jaw angles. Whether augmenting the jaw behind the chin is of value also requires computer imaging to evaluate. Unlike the chin the only option for the rest of the jawline is an implant approach to which the choices are either standard or custom implant designs.
