Replacing existing crown before or after braces treatment?

Question

Crown placed in Nov., the crown makes little to no contact with the opposing tooth. It's on #19. The crown is bulky but for the most part doesn't bother me. Except it hurts to floss on the mesial side of tooth. New dentist wants to redo crown due to poor contouring. I am getting braces now and both orthodontist and dentist want a new crown before starting braces. Don't most providers say to place a temp crown during braces? I don't want a new crown to get ruined during braces or mess up my bite.

It all depends on the root position.
If it is way off , it could be a good option, but with a very well adjusted, polished and defined temporary crown it can be done as well.
As an orthodontist I prefer a temporary cemented with a strong cement, so it doesn't come off during the orthodontic movements.

Some dentists feel that it is better to have a permanent crown before treatment ,because  less chance of recurring decay, fracture of temporary crown, and less inflammation of tissue.
Other dentists feel better to place temporary crown, that has the proper shape and size and that is cemented well.  It is easier to change the  shape of a  temporary if more or less space is required by orthodontist, and then finish crown when orthodontics is complete..
