5 days after Juvederm for acne scars I still have lumps at every site. Is this normal?

It can take up to two weeks for filler to fully settle and to see a final result. Most fillers can be easily molded and moved around if needed. I would follow up with your physician for any questions or concerns. If after the 2 weeks, you are still unhappy with the results, you can use Hyaluronidase. This decreases the viscosity of the intercellular matrix by breaking down hyaluronic acid and ultimately dissolves any unwanted filler. Hope this helps and best of luck. 

Yes, this can be typical. You may have swelling and/or lumps for 1-2 weeks. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Fillers, esp like Juvederm take at least 2 weeks to settle. and in the meantime they do look and feel lumpy etc,,, stay in touch with your doctor's office and make sure u follow up in 2-3 weeks

Yes, this can be typical. It can take 1-2 weeks for final results with Juvederm. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Keep in mind, a combination approach will give the most improvement. These types of scars need a combination of lasers, microneedling/prp, Cosmelan, subcision and fillers. Juvederm and Restylane work very well for acne scars but the swelling can last for a few weeks.  However, sometimes a finer hyaluronic acid like Belotero or Restylane Silk may be needed if the scars are superficial.  You may need eMatrix or Fraxel for acne scars if there is a lot of surface irregularity.  Please consult an expert in acne scars

Thanks for your question and sorry that your injector did not inform you that this may occur, especially after injecting acne scars.  We always recommend that these injections be given in the offices of board certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons – we are the true experts in how to use these.  Lumps and swelling can occur after your injections – you may ice the area and use gentle massage – and this may last up to two weeks after the injection.  If it lasts longer, see your provider.  Good luck.

Yes, it is normal to have some lumps at the injection sites for even a week.  If these persist, we would recommend follow-up with your injector. To minimize the appearance of the scar, the filler has to be layered in that area to fill in the scar.  This treatment is how the scar appears less cosmetically noticeable. The filler typically lasts 6-12 months, but acne scars tend to look better than baseline even after filler is resolved.

Thank you for your question.  With any injectable this is a common concern at this stage.  This is especially true for the superficial injections necessary for acne related skin irregularities.  The presence of the bumps usually resolves in two to three weeks as the hyaluronic acid is incorporated and interacts with the skin.  The type of Juvederm and the level at which is was injected also impacts this.  We recommend focused warmth and massage regularly throughout the day for the first two to three weeks, topical hyaluronic acid as a lubricant for the massage.  Some patients have like using arnica gel as well.  If after two weeks there remain bumps that are concerning,  seeing your injector is important.  Never hesitate to bring up a concern to your injector.  If your injector is experienced or is part of an office with other experienced providers, likely they have seen it and will have recommendations that you can follow.
