Puffy eyes after cheek filler - 5 weeks after the treatment.

Question

Had my juvederm top-up on my cheeks 5 weeks ago now. 3 days ago (after 5 week) one side of my face swell up. She injected me with cannula and also higher in the cheekbones. I now have pillows under my eyes and my face feel like a pig! I also feel my eyes are very stretchy and I wake up every morning so puffy! I also have a tiny broken capillary under my eye. Why am I feeling this way after 5 weeks. She used juvederm 3 and put 1 syringe in both cheeks and some on chin. Any suggestion please?

I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, the filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. I hope this helps.

I do use Juvederm quite frequently in my practice. as well as fat. I have to say that if its making you feel so uncomfortable then its best to have this dissolved. ASAP! there is a chance that the filler placement is causing problems with venous return of the mid face and that can lead to the swollen look you're describing.

This is difficult to answer without before and after pictures. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing after your Juvederm treatment.  I recommend returning to your injector for an evaluation.  If desired the product can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Juvederm is not a good filler for the eyelid.  If it is kept strictly in the outer cheek then you would be ok. But if some is also put into the lower lid or tear trough it can result in long term edema.  You need to have some hyaluronidase injected into the lid to remove the filler.
