I am six weeks post-op from my BBL procedure. I had lipo on my abdomen, flanks, and back. My abdomen is still tight and numb. I also seem to be quite swollen, still. My navel even appears swollen. I do not have any adverse symptoms (i.e. rash, pain, etc.), but just a “pulling” sensation or tension in my abdomen and flanks. I’ve received two lymphatic massages so far. What do I need to do to decrease the tension of tightness? Also, most of my lipo’s areas are still numb.
Answer: 6 weeks post-op my abdomen is still feeling tight and numb. What can I do to decrease the tension and numbness? (photo) There can be some numbness that is usually temporary due the procedure. The tight feeling is a natural part of the healing process. Depending upon the extensiveness of lipo, it could take months for all the tightness and numbness to resolve. I do not recommend lymphatic massages, but if you PS does, follow his/her protocol. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Los Angeles, CA

Answer: 6 weeks post-op my abdomen is still feeling tight and numb. What can I do to decrease the tension and numbness? Thank you for your question and photo. At six weeks you are still early in the healing process. Your skin has the appearance of "orange peel" which is consistent with swelling even in the dermis or skin. This will improve over time, massage will be beneficial and stretching exercises. Be patient, might take a minimum of 6 months to return to normal including regaining skin sensation. Good luck with your healing.

Answer: 6 weeks post-op my abdomen is still feeling tight and numb. What can I do to decrease the tension and numbness? (photo) Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation and discomfort are normal. I suggest my patients to try the lymphatic massages and to use a full body compression garment, 24/7 for the first 3 months, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 more months, to get the best results. It is important for the compression garment to be very tight, for it to help with the swelling, after surgery. Please, follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Good luck :)

Answer: Normal post operative liposuction sensations what you describe is normal postoperative sensations after liposuction. These are typically questions patients discuss with their surgeons during their postop visits. That would be a pretty good place to get an assessment and reassurance. It takes 3 to 6 months for things to settle down and stop changing. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
