Umbilical hernia repair. Belly Button Looks Totally Different

I had a large innie. After surgery the base of my belly button is the size of a pinhead. Previously the base was 3/8 inch round. Belly button is nowhere near as deep and most of the innie is visible on my stomach. Is there anything that could have been done to avoid this outcome?

I had umbilical hernia repair yesterday (Monday, April 1st) via laparoscopic. Pain level is about a dull 3-4. Gas trapped inside is the worse. I’m up and walking taking baby steps and hunched over a bit. Dr. Brought my belly button back in. Have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks.
