Umbilical Hernia Repair Concern
LauraBradshawMarch 5, 2021
I had an umbilical hernia repair 7 months ago that the surgeon cut open just above my belly button. For the whole 7 months that area was inflamed, (I found this out after I had an US and was painful the whole time) they didn’t know why it was inflamed but said I had 2 hernias come back right near my belly button and they would be able to see why it’s inflamed once they cut me open again...but since I had my most recent surgery on Thursday, I haven’t seen the surgeon at all, before or after, but he’s cut under my belly this time (we didn’t discuss this) but it’s still all really inflamed where it was inflamed and bulging out before? More than normal. Is this normal for it to be so inflamed after so long and again? This time he used mesh? It looks like a bulging step and it’s sore and really hard still...

Update - maybe infected?

It also looks quite infected. How does it look to you? It’s been 2 weeks and wasn’t like this a few days ago. It is really red, hard, in the area and it has a burning pain through it ongoing and it super sore.

Still infected ?
LauraBradshawMarch 15, 2021
I got some antibiotics for my hernia mesh repair (second surgery) my last day of the course is tomorrow. I still have bad burning and pain in that area, it is still bright red and hard in that area...does it still look infected and what is the chance I may need to remove the mesh? Can an US pick up infections?

Good lord, please tell me you've had good care, and this has healed up just nicely! It did, indeed, look (and your description of it being hot, sore, & red) & sound as if infection/complication had set in. I do hope things are better for you now.
