Question

My teeth have recently been chipping very easily (top front 4). What can cause this? I recently had a baby and while I was pregnant I ate a lot of ice and had bad "morning sickness" multiple times during the day. Can this of affected my teeth? Prior to getting pregnant I had no chipped teeth or other problems, now 4 have gotten chipped in the matter of 1 year. Also how can this be prevented and fixed?

Congratulations on the baby. It is a fact that the acid from morning sickness can be erosive to tooth structure. In the future if morning sickness is a problem I would ask your MD for something to help with the nausea. Repairing this can be done with bonding or veneers. Either should work well in your situation. I also suggest talking to your dentist about your diet and using additional fluoride to help theeth stay their healthiest.

The edges of upper front teeth can be very thin. If acid comes in contact with them (morning sickness) and you grind your teeth at night, the combination can cause your teeth to chip very easily. The good news is , your teeth can be fixed by placing bonding material on them. Your bite will also need to be taken into account as well. You also might need to wear a guard over your teeth while your sleeping. Don't worry, your teeth do not need to stay like that! I hope this helps!
