What is the probablity that microneedling can make someone look worse?

I have just completed the second round of a microneedling treatment - five days out and the redness and such is all gone, but I look shockingly much older and more wrinkled. I am frankly pretty worried. My husband is even disturbed. If for some reason my skin responses so negatively to such a treatment, with wrinkles and lines worsening rather than improving, what are my options to get back to where I was?

This is tough to answer without pictures, but it can take a series of treatments to get improvement. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for recommendations for after care and skin care. Micro-needling is a wonderful treatment to improve the overall quality of skin by creating small holes in the skin to stimulate new collagen.  While no procedure is without risk, micro-needling is overwhelmingly safe when performed by a highly trained medical professional. It would be highly unlikely that micro-needling would cause a worsening of the fine lines and wrinkles of your face. For this reason, there is likely another reason why you are experiencing this result. I would get an evaluation with a medical professional that has extensive experience with micro-needling.Hope this helps

Your skin will NOT worsen after microneedling. I would recommend using an epidermal repair cream and keep the skin hydrated. After the dry skin subsides I am sure you will see improvement in your skin. Best to you, Dr Faraz

You should not expect to look worse after microneedling.  It is normal, after most treatments, to be a little pink and possibly slight swollen for up to 24 hours,  Your complaint of looking older and more wrinkled is probably due to dry skin, and should recover quickly.  Optional moisturizers post-procedure: Epionce recovery kit or Epionce intensive nourishing cream,  and  Epionce milky lotion cleanse

Microneedling should NOT make your lines or wrinkles worse. It takes a series of treatments to get the best results so I recommend giving it some time. You definitely should not have significantly aged only 5 days post treatment. I recommend you keep the area well moisturizer and sun protected and give it some time and things will look better. I think some of those wrinkles are likely scaling from the procedure. Hang in there!
