Is microneedling with PRP safe to perform on active acne?

You can have microneedling/prp with acne. However, I recommend getting a formal consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist to get a treatment plan for active/hormonal acne and skin rejuvenation. I agree you should consider having the active acne treated first.  The microneedling if very likely to make it worse in the short term, which I doubt will make you very happy.  Once the acne is at least somewhat under control you can probably go ahead with microneedling if you still want to.  However, just controlling your acne may make you happy enough that you don't feel like you need microneedling after that.

Hi @jennygao23! I would recommend avoiding microneedling around active acne to prevent the spread of bacteria. However, if you are doing RF Microneedling like Morpheus 8, you are able to get this procedure done with active acne. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Thank you for your question. I personally do not recommend microneedling over active acne. It is best to start treating the acne with medicated creams and other medicines to control the acne. Then I would treat with microneedling to correct the scars and improve the skin. I recommend seeking and expert for the best treatment plan for you. 

Hi jennygao23,Microneedling in my experience is not done when there is active acne. Whether or not PRP is used, there is a tendency to spread bacteria from the acne. Also if you are on Accutane, you must wait for six months prior to attempting microneedling.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.

I do not recommend microneedling over active acne.  I have done this around inflammed areas, but you do risk spreading the bacteria.  I prefer to start my patients on medicated creams, etc. to get the acne under control, and then perform microneedling with PRP to correct the scars and improve the skin.
